Cancer patient refuses conventional treatment reveals stunning reduction in tumour size "within three months of him taking daily drops of cannabis-derived oil"

An 81 year old cancer patient, who has not been identified but is understood to be from the Stoke-on-Trent area, opted to take drops of Cannabidiol (CBD) oil each day in lieu of chemotherapy or radiotherapy in order to tackle his lung cancer.

Around 44,500 people are diagnosed with lung cancer in the UK every year.

The patient had initially refused Royal Stoke University Hospitals offer of chemotherapy and radiotherapy because he did not want to suffer adverse side effects in the final years of his life. Dr Sulé-Suso of the SAGE Open Medical Case Reports spotted the ‘significant reduction’ in the size and number of mediastinal lymph nodes. Doctors asked the patient about his lifestyle, in order to ascertain what may have had the dramatic effect on his cancer. The patient revealed that he had started taking CBD oil in September last year, consuming two drops twice daily for a week, before increasing his dose to nine drops twice a day.

The doctors involved in this individuals care have published the stunning scans, detailing how the tumours have halved in size. The account has been published in a medical journal, in which doctors claim that ‘CBD may have had a role in the striking response’. Whilst this alone not conclusive, it adds to the growing body of research that indicates that CBD could have very positive effects on the body.

It has been hypothesised that in this instance CBD can help produce oxygenated chemicals in the body that may cause cancerous cells to kill themselves, however other theories have also been put forward, such as the idea that it puts a form of block on cancerous tumours that prohibits further growth.

The anti-inflammatory element to CBD has already been backed by the World Health Organisation. More broadly however, research has shown that CBD is incredibly versatile in the positive effects it can have on the body, notably for mental health. People have increasingly turned to CBD oil in the UK as a form of anxiety relief and alleviation of depression.
